A man surnamed Liu has been sentenced to seven months in jail and a fine of 2,000 yuan by the Chaoyang District Court for selling marijuana on WeChat in March, the Beijing Times reported.

Liu bought 5 grams of marijuana for 110 yuan per gram from a friend on WeChat and sold it for 150 yuan per gram to a 19-year-old woman via WeChat. A few days later, Liu was on his way to meeting the woman in Xicheng district and was caught by police before he had a chance to hand over the drugs.

The judge granted Liu a lighter than usual sentence for drug trafficking because he confessed and the drugs did not cause harm to society.
