Work on rebuilding the Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Sichuan Province will begin this month. The base at the Wolong Nature Reserve was severely damaged in last May's earthquake.

The devastating earthquake destroyed all of the center's infrastructure. Sixty pandas were removed from the center and have lived in other places over the past year.

The new base will also be located in Wolong. All of the 26 individual construction projects are financed by the government of Hong Kong. Reconstruction work should be completed within a year.
