95 illegal migrants apprehended by Slovenian police over weekend

Ninety-five illegal migrants trying to enter Slovenia from Croatia were apprehended by local police over the weekend, according to the national media. 42 people were apprehended in the area of Koper, southwest, and 53 in the area of Novo Mesto, southeast, the Slovenian Press Agency STA said on Monday, citing the national police.

A total of 2,036 foreigners who were crossing into Slovenia illegally were apprehended in the regions between Jan. 1 and Aug. 19, up 248 percent from the same period last year, it was reported.

The majority of illegal migrants are from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Algeria and Iran, according to the STA.
