The event has also been hailed by dignitaries, as Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad attended the awarding ceremony.

The regatta competition, which traveled to Phuket of Thailand, Beihai of China and Singapore before ending in Malaysia, is the first sailing event named after the Belt and Road Initiative.

As the major organizer, the Chinese Yachting Association aims to establish the regatta as a globally renowned event in the Belt and Road region.
