Chinese musical Soul Ferryman is set to make its debut at Beijing's Tianqiao Performing Arts Center on Friday.

The musical, directed by Ma Da and starring Deng Jinhong, Fang Xiaodong and Cui Xiuli, is adapted from the hit internet series of the same name. The storyline for the new musical will stay true to the original work and follow soul ferryman Zhao Li as he discovers and saves souls in the human world.

According to the veteran musical director, he worked closely with visual director Ren Dongsheng, costume design Zhang Ziwei and music director Zhang Xiaozhen to present a punk-style music fest to audiences.

The new musical marks production company One World Culture Communication's latest move to bring high quality content to the domestic market.

According to Yu Tingting from One World Culture Communication, the new musical is an important step on the road to developing China's own original dramas and the latest example of the fusion of the industries of the performing arts and film and TV.

After the Beijing leg, the musical will tour to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen and Chengdu.
