The call to edit Donald Trump's cameo from Home Alone 2 trended on Twitter recently due to requests by the movie's fans in the US, and even the film's lead actor Macaulay Culkin.

Appearing as a cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Trump played opposite Culkin in a scene at The Plaza Hotel in New York, which was under Trump's name at the time. The two encounter each other as Culkin's character Kevin asks Trump for directions to the lobby and the latter points the way.

The call to edit Trump from the scene was backed up by Culkin himself on Twitter as the actor commented "bravo" to a video that one Twitter user posted in which Trump was erased from the scene and it appears that Kelvin is talking to the air.

"Sold," Culkin commented below another tweet when a netizen posted: "petition to digitally replace trump in 'home alone 2' with 40-year-old Macaulay Culkin."

Trump's cameo in the film was already removed once when the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation aired the movie on Christmas Day 2019. The move led to Trump to tweet about the political implications about the issue, joking that "I guess Justin [Trudeau] doesn't much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade!"

The news about the possible elimination of Trump from the film became a hot topic in China, inspiring netizens to comment on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.

Some Chinese netizens backed up Trump, saying the entire issue on Twitter was disrespectful to the US president.

"Don't want to say too much about him, but treating him like he never existed? It's disrespectful I think," said a netizen on Sina Weibo.

"Could they be more boring? I feel sad for Trump this time because he is the one out there, and gets attacked, and in this case, bullied so easily by whatever kind of crap," posted another.

"He was a decent cameo in the film, better than him as Waldo's dad in The Little Rascals, I think," said Zeping, a Chinese fan who is interested in Trump's 'film career' told the Global Times on Tuesday.

"Is it necessary to bring it up now? You filmed at his hotel no matter what, didn't you?" said Yue, a Chinese fan of the Home Alone movie series told the Global Times on Tuesday.

Given such voices, some other Chinese netizens consider the anti-Trump issue relating to the film has its own reason.

"Does this have something to do with anti-Trump feelings following the chaos that occurred at the US Capitol?" posted a user speculating on the cause for the appeal.

"Isn't this happening because he is leaving for sure? But he has not completely left yet," said another.

According to Business Insider, Trump was not the only one who got "bullied" in this case, since he got the role in the film by forcing the director to give him the cameo in exchange for permission to shoot at the hotel lobby.
