South China airport sees over 43 million passenger throughput

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in south China's Guangdong Province reported an annual passenger throughput of 43.77 million in 2020, the airport said on Monday.

As one of the world's busiest airports, Baiyun airport handled a total of 373,400 flights last year.

From September to December 2020, the airport recorded year-on-year growth in domestic passenger flow every month, showing that it has risen above the woes of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In November 2020, with a monthly passenger throughput of 5.01 million, the airport became the only airport worldwide with a monthly passenger flow exceeding 5 million since the onset of the pandemic.

In 2021, the airport will accelerate its ongoing expansion to boost the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, said Qi Yaoming with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Co., Ltd.

The airport reported a total passenger throughput of 73.39 million in 2019, ranking 11th globally.
