To continue to promote the development of red tourism in Beijing, the capital's Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism in 2020 organized experts to review the qualifications of 120 tourist sites on the city's Red Tourism Attractions list, including the Palace Museum and National Museum of China.

The results of the review were published on Tuesday. A total of 106 attractions were allowed to remain on the list, while 14 did not pass; either due to them not being open for review due to COVID-19 or because they did not meet the list's standards. 

Some attractions like Sports Museum of China and Beijing Art Museum gave up being reviewed because they do not open to the public during the COVID-19 epidemic.

Other famed attractions such as Tiananmen Square, the Palace Museum and the National Museum as well as the National Art Museum of China all passed review.

These 120 red tourism attractions in Beijing had originally been included on the list in March 2019. At the time, this was the highest number of red attractions in a city in China. 

Beijing has been working to promote red tourism in recent years. The top five professional docents and top five volunteers at Beijing's patriotic tourist, or red tourism, attractions were awarded in December 2020.

The 23 professional and nine volunteer tour guides that entered the competition were recommended by many red tourism attractions and patriotic education bases in the city and represent the best patriotic tourism guides in the city, the People's Daily reported.
