A new exhibition at Beijing's Red Brick Art Museum is opening a window to look into the career of US artist James Lee Byars through more than 50 of his works.

The Perfect Moment exhibition, which started on Saturday, includes works from installations, performances, sculptures to videos spanning four decades of the late artist's career.

After studying at Wayne State University, Byars traveled to Japan in 1958, where he lived and worked for 10 years.

According to Yan Shijie, the exhibition's curator, Byars' unique art creation was "inspired by Zen Buddhism and the drama of Noh theater. Japan was the starting point of his art practice."

The exhibition is set to run until May 5.

The museum is also hosting a new exhibition featuring abstract works from Christopher le Brun.
