The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) solicited public opinions on a draft regulation on Wednesday to strengthen management of information intelligently connected by automobile manufacturers.

The draft rule noted that manufacturers should appropriately collect, use and protect personal information and other data, and strictly prohibit disclosure of sensitive information related to national security. 

Recently, many Chinese enterprises have made foray into the smart mobility race, as technology giants have unveiled software solutions for smart transportation such as Huawei, Baidu and Xiaomi. 

The draft regulation proposes that intelligently connected automobile manufacturers should collect, use and protect personal information and other data in accordance with the law, implement data classification and hierarchical management, craft relevant catalogs for important data, and prohibit disclosure of sensitive information related to national security. 

Enterprises should make sure that they meet the security requirements and establish relevant management and supervision mechanism for vehicle software upgrades, protecting network security and data security, adding that setting up monitoring platforms will help ensure product quality while assisting to protect information.
