A highly pathogenic H5N6 avian flu has been found in wild birds in Shenyang, a city in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, China's agriculture and rural affairs ministry said on Monday. The new cases mark the first confirmed cases of the flu in China this year.

The avian flu was found in a forest park in Shenyang, which had 291 wild birds. 11 of them were killed by the disease, while the rest were culled as part of emergency response measures.

Surrounding areas of the outbreak have been disinfected.

Last year, a similar outbreak of bird flu was found in Nanchong, a city in Southwest China's Sichuan Province in February.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's food safety authorities also decided on Monday to suspend importing poultry meat and related products like poultry eggs from certain areas in Germany which is battling another round of H5N8 bird flu outbreak. There have been three outbreaks of bird flu over recent weeks in Germany's Brandenburg, according to overseas media reports.
