Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the annual Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) via video link on Tuesday and deliver a keynote speech, Foreign Ministry (FM) announced on Monday.

Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the ministry, said at a regular news briefing on Monday that the keynote speech will expound "Chinese concepts" and "Chinese solutions" to promote the development and prosperity for Asia and the world, amid the current international and regional situations.

The four-day annual conference in 2021, which is themed "A World in Change: Join Hands to Strengthen Global Governance and Advance Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation," will be held from Sunday to Wednesday this week in Boao, a tropical resort in South China's Hainan Province.

This year also marked the 20th anniversary of BFA's foundation. Launched in 2001, the BFA is a non-governmental and non-profit international organization committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian economies closer to realize development goals.

The 2020 BFA conference was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As the host, China hopes to work with representatives from all parties to focus on the theme of the annual meeting, brainstorm ideas, foster consensus, discuss cooperation and win-win plans, seek common development and prosperity, and make positive contributions to creating a better future for Asia and the world," said Wang.

And, 2021 marks the fifth time that President Xi attended the forum.

In 2018, Xi announced a new round of China's opening-up measures at the event, with the expectation that the country's opening-up efforts will benefit all enterprises and people in China and around the world.

The measures included significantly broadening market access, creating a more attractive investment environment, strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights, among others.
