Bodyguards and Assassins film producer Huang Jianxin has been appointed as the judge of the main competition unit of the Golden Goblet Award at the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).

The appointment was announced on Tuesday at a press conference highlighting the 24th SIFF and its mission to welcome the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in July, whose open ceremony is scheduled on June 6 lasting nine days. The jury lists and the Golden Goblet Award entries were also revealed at the press conference.

Having broken Chinese film box office records and won several international film festivals, Huang is a film producer and director who helmed the first two films of the Grand Series of The People's Republic of China (PRC) Trilogy, The Founding of A Republic and Beginning of The Great Revival, released in 2009 and 2011.

Huang's film 1921, a historical drama telling the story of a group of young people gathering in Shanghai to start the CPC in July 1921, is going to be released on July 1 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the CPC. And his latest movie, The Battle at Lake Changjin featuring martial arts star Wu Jing and young actor Jackson Yee, has also just wrapped and is expected to come out within the year.

SIFF is among 15 Competitive Feature Film Festivals, which also include the Cannes International Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival, and Berlin International Film Festival.
