Residents in Longwu community in Shanghai witnessed 100-yuan bills raining down from a building on Tuesday. They were reportedly thrown down from the 28th floor by a woman suspected to be mentally ill.

All 30 bills were picked up and collected by nearby residents, without one going missing, said local police.

The resident who called the police told the media that he was seeing bills flying down from a high-rise building and dropping on trees, the ground and the lawn all around the community.

"People collected the bills and gave them all to the police," he said.

After investigation, the police confirmed that the money had been thrown out by a woman from a balcony on the 28th floor. The woman's mother said she suffered from mental illness and had taken the cash from their home.

The mother also expressed gratitude to the police and the people who helped collect and return the money. "I wouldn't have even known about it if the police hadn't told me. I am so touched that all the bills were given back," she said.
