Chinese chip making giant, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Co (SMIC), announced on Sunday that its core technical personnel, Wu Jingang, resigned from the company.

According to a statement released by SMIC, Wu recently submitted his resignation due to personal reasons and completed procedures to leave the company. He will no longer hold any position in SMIC after his resignation.

Currently, the company's research and development (R&D) remains unaltered and his resignation has not imposed any significant adverse impact on the company's overall R&D strength. The company had 2,335 R&D staff in 2020, accounting for 13.5 percent of the company's overall staff, SMIC disclosed.

Wu joined SMIC in 2001 and became the company's R&D vice president in 2014. He was in charge of the company's fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) advanced technology R&D and management.

The statement also stressed that Wu pledged not to leak any of the company's secrets or proprietary information and will not work for any of the company's competitors in the 12 months after his resignation.

The US government took a harsh action against the Chinese top chipmaker in 2020 by adding it to an Entity List which blocked the company's access to US suppliers and technology.
