Hit Chinese star Wang Yibo earned thumbs-up from Chinese netizens after he paid tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives to defend China and aid North Korea during the Korean War (1950-53).

On a TV show celebrating the Communist Party of China (CPC)’s centennial on Mango TV on Sunday night, Wang narrated stories about the difficult conditions Chinese soldiers faced during efforts to resist US aggression and aid Korea at the Battle of Lake Jangjin, an important battle during the war, including a touching story of a martyr named Yang Hensi, who died while defending an important highland from US forces at the age of 28.

“A warrior’s body can sleep forever, but the warrior’s will and faith will be passed on,” Wang said.

Wang also sang the song “The Look of Youth” to pay tribute to those who had given their lives.

The hashtag “Wang Yibo pays tribute to the heroes of the Korean War” has earned 230 million views on China’s Twitter-like Sina Weibo as of Monday. Many Chinese netizens expressed their appreciation for the young star’s ode to Chinese heroes.

“It can be a favorable idea to invite some online TV stars to convey positive energy and spirit to younger generations,” one Chinese netizen commented on Sina Weibo.

Chinese singer Lay Zhang also once sang the “Song of the Seven Sons - Macao,” a song that marks Macao's return to China during a CCTV performance marking the CPC’s centennial on July 1.
