Passing through philtrum pressing, catheters insertion and electrocardiogram checking, a suspect who faked fainting for three days after being arrested finally gave himself up when a police officer was eating curry beef rice by his side. The suspect said the food "smelled so good" for his empty stomach.

The man from Xiaogan, Central China's Hubei Province, was arrested on suspicion of fraud on July 7. To avoid investigation, he decided to pretend to have suffered trauma and fake fainting in front of the police, according to his admission.

After being sent to the hospital, the doctor tried various treatments to wake him up, but all failed.

On the third day of his fainting, the man finally "woke up" when a police officer was eating curry beef rice by his bed.

"The rice's smell was very strong and spread all over the room as I was eating it," said the officer. "Then he started moving his head and slowly got up," he said.

The suspect admitted that it was the food that finally made him give up. "I haven't eaten for three days. My empty stomach couldn't bear it anymore when I smelled food around me," he said.
