King Khufu's 4,500-year-old boat transferred to Grand Egyptian Museumv

Egypt transported the first Khufu solar boat located at the southern side of the Great Pyramid of Khufu at the Giza Pyramids scenic spot to its new permanent exhibition area at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), in a journey taken last Friday around 10 hours.

King Khufu was a famous fourth dynasty Pharaoh who built the great Khufu Pyramid. His solar boat was designed to ferry him to the afterlife according to ancient Egyptian beliefs. The 42-meter-long and 20-ton first solar boat, discovered beside the Khufu Pyramid in 1954, is more than 4,500 years old.
