Cambodian health officials said Thursday that Chinese vaccines are highly effective against the Delta variant, while welcoming an additional 3 million doses of Sinovac's COVID-19 vaccine at the international airport in Phnom Penh on Thursday morning.

The officials said that Chinese vaccines have helped Cambodia greatly reduce infections and critical cases. According to the official, 80 percent of adults in Cambodia have been vaccinated so daily cases in the country have not risen too much despite the spread of the Delta variant.

The officials noted that another batch of 2 million Sinovac shots would arrive in the near future.

According to media reports, Cambodia has so far received 24.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, among which 7.2 million shots were made by China's Sinopharm and another 14.5 million shots were from Sinovac.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has said on many occasions that the Cambodian government sees Chinese vaccines as strategic support.
