China's largest carbon fiber production facility was officially put into operation in Xining in Northwest China's Qinghai Province, China National Building Material Group (CNBM) said at a conference on Wednesday, adding that the company achieved for the first time a single-line annual output of 3,000 tons of high-performance carbon fiber production line, with fully independent intellectual property rights.

The 10,000-ton carbon fiber base of CNBM in Xining started construction in May 2019, with a total area of 800 acres. The company invested 5 billion yuan ($0.77 billion)in the base, with the technology and scale placing the firm at the top of the domestic industry.

The expected capacity of the production base is 25,000 tons.

The high-end carbon fiber produced at the facility can withstand over 2,000 degrees Celsius. It weighs only 25 percent of steel, but is 10 times stronger than steel. The carbon fiber can be widely used in a range of fields including aerospace, transportation and new energy.

Moreover, CNBM also participated in the development of China's first international standard for measuring the density of carbon fiber. It is the first international standard in the field of carbon fiber based on Chinese technology, further enhancing China's influence of carbon fiber in the international community.

The 10,000-ton carbon fiber production line marks a vital step in the development of high-end carbon fiber market for CNBM, which not only enhances the international competitiveness and influence of domestic carbon fiber, but also will contribute to the high-quality development of China's carbon fiber industry.
