China's electric vehicle sector was boosted by the country's favorable policies, with EV productions and sales taking the first slot in the world for the past six consecutive years, said China' Vice Premier Han Zheng on Thursday.

Han delivered a speech at the 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Congress being held at Bo'ao, South China's Hainan Island. Han noted that China had established a mature EV industry chain that can connect the up and down stream of electric vehicle manufacturing sector, and also possessed the world's leading technology in manufacturing key vehicle components.

Han suggested that new energy vehicle consumption has become the major direction of global auto industry transformation. He called for domestic EV makers to break through core technologies including duel battery, auto chips and operational software systems, and aim for scalable industrial efficiency.

Han also vowed during the congress to improve the government's supportive policies for the new energy vehicle sector, and enhance regional cooperation in technology innovation.
