The final shipment of 6,600 tons of high-quality rails for the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway (HSR) arrived at the port of Cilacap in Indonesia on Tuesday, marking the export of all steel rails required for the first overseas HSR project, with a full industrial chain based in China, China State Railway Group Co (China Railway) said in a press release on Wednesday.

A Chinese construction consortium led by China Railway International Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Railway is responsible for the track-laying of the railway.

Weighted 38,100 tons in total, the steel rails were shipped by sea from the port of Fangchenggang in South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

In total, five shipments arrived in Indonesia in the past 10 months.

Despite the negative impact of COVID-19, Chinese companies have set up a series of transport plans and transformed the port of Fangchenggang and port of Cilacap to ensure timely transport of steel rails.

The rails will be transported to the track-laying base of the Tegal Luar Depot, on the outskirt of West Java province's capital Bandung in batches via the existing narrow-gauge railway. They will be welded into 500-meter-long steel rails and put into use along the whole line.

With a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the high-speed railway will cut the journey between the capital city of Jakarta and the fourth-largest city of Bandung from more than three hours to merely 40 minutes, greatly benefitting local travelers and helping local economic development, according to the press release.
