A male Weibo blogger with 1.79 million followers who withdrew 5 million yuan ($777,725) in cash, contained in three suitcases, from a Bank of Shanghai branch on October 16 claimed that he experienced "the worst service ever," and drove him to withdraw the cash, triggering a wide discussion among netizens.

The blogger threatened to withdraw all his deposits at the bank, which he put it at "tens of millions" yuan.

The topic has attracted 280 million reads on Sina Weibo, China twitter-like platform. Some netizens claimed that there are indeed some unprofessional employees and banks should provide good services to customers.

However, other netizens argued that both sides may have problems. "Normally a person will not withdraw 5 million yuan only because of an individual employee's unsatisfying attitude," one netizen wrote.

After the incident became viral online, Bank of Shanghai replied on Monday saying that the security guard in the bank reminded the blogger to wear a face mask and their employees didn't violate any rules after checking the surveillance footage. The bank added that it will treat each customer well and provide high-quality services to them.

The blogger withdrew 5 million yuan cash on October 16 and two bank clerks spent about two hours on the transaction.

Some netizens claimed the blogger was stopped by the security guard as he refused to wear a face mask, and he even requested the head of the bank outlet in to "kneel down to apologize".

He replied in a post on his Weibo on Monday that he didn't refuse to wear a face mask and respected the COVID-19 preventative rules. He realized he forgot to wear a face mask when it was pointed out by the security guard. He went out and bought one at a nearby store, he said.

He also denied the rumor that he forced the bank head to kneel down to apologize and required the bank to provide surveillance footage.
