The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) marked the United Nations Day, which falls on Oct. 24, at its headquarters in Naqoura, southern Lebanon on Monday.
The ceremony was attended by UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka, peacekeepers, UN officials, representatives from the Lebanese Armed Forces, and local dignitaries.
The UNIFIL's Head of Mission and Force Commander Stefano Del Col addressed the ceremony that southern Lebanon has enjoyed fifteen years of relative stability thanks to the dedication of peacekeepers and the commitment of relevant parties, appreciating the contribution of military and civilian peacekeepers for maintaining international peace and security.
During the ceremony, Del Col and Lebanese Armed Forces South Litani Sector Commander Maroun Kobayati laid wreaths in tribute to the peacekeepers.
Chinese peacekeepers took part in the military parade. Since 1990, China has dispatched over 50,000 peacekeepers to nearly 30 UN peacekeeping missions. It has contributed more peacekeepers than any other permanent member of the Security Council.
