Chinese tech firm ByteDance will integrate Toutiao and Xigua Video into Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, according to an internal letter at the company on Tuesday, with co-founder and current HR head Liang Rubo becoming the new CEO.

Liang said the company will set up six business units, including Douyin and Tik Tok, in order to meet the demand of more complex businesses and larger teams.

Douyin, which will include Toutiao and Xigua Video, will be responsible for the overall development of the domestic information and services business.

In May this year, Zhang Yiming said in an internal letter that he will step down as CEO and transition to a new role by the end of 2021.

The new organizational adjustment means that the handover has been completed as scheduled, analysts said.

On October 19, some media reports said that ByteDance had laid off employees from the game and education sectors. Later, the company confirmed the lay-offs, adding that it was a normal business adjustment.
