Team Xiamen claimed the 2021 Belt and Road International Regatta on Friday after seven days of competition in Beihai, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, while local team Beihai Old Boys finished second , followed by Team Shenzhen in third.

The windy conditions in Beihai during the week were considered the major challenge for the competitiors. Xiamen team captain Zhang Wenpei said he believed their team efforts in the wind were the major contributor to their win.

"We were fourth in 2019 and last year we were runners-up," Zhang told reporters. 

"Our teamwork is great. Winning the championship means our team efforts have worked out in such windy weather." 

Despite international travel restrictions due to the pandemic, the event also featured international sailing teams including Team SailingIn from the US and Team Sbodyfit Racing from Germany.
