A panda in Beijing Zoo trying to “escape from the cage” as it climbed on the fence on Wednesday attracted a large audience, and some were amazed by how familiar it was with the escape route.

As an online video showed, the panda first walked near the fence around 11:30 am on Wednesday morning. It stepped on the decorations in the fence and then stepped over the fence.

The fence is about 2 meters high, and the area where the panda climbed out was a non-visiting area, which has about a 2-meter distance from the area for visiting.

The zoo said in a Weibo post on Wednesday afternoon that the panda is named Menglan, which is an active male panda in the zoo. In an agile manner, the panda crawled out into a buffering area which is outside a sports area that is isolated from the visitors. After a panda breeder lured him with delicious food, the panda returned to the breeding area.

The zoo said that although the panda happily returned, the safety of the area will be enhanced. “It’s just a one-time adventure,” the zoo said in the post.

Some netizens cheered the video on Chinese Twitter-like social media platform Weibo, saying that the panda is adorable and the outside world is fascinating. One said the “the panda is indeed a national treasure as nobody stopped it from ‘breaking out of prison,’ which only makes people laugh.”
