The market regulator for Qingpu district in Shanghai recently fined Sam's Club Shanghai 10,000 yuan ($1,573.49) for producing, selling food and food additives with illicit tag and introductory information, according to online enterprises platform Tianyancha.

The penalty was issued on November 23, 2021. The regulator also confiscated 197 yuan of illegal gains from Sam's Club connected to the incident.

Sam's Club, a high-end membership store belonging to Walmart, has been blasted by Chinese consumers and netizens for reportedly removing products sourced from Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions.

Sam's Club now has 34 stores in China, with a further 23 stores under construction, according to media reports.
