The Beijing 2022 emblem consists of three parts including the emblem graphic, the text logo, and the Olympic rings logo. The design looks simple, but behind the scenes it was a complex process.

The designer artist Lin Cunzhen said she spent eight months and drew 50,000 drafts before reaching the final design.

One difficulty in that the initial design started in 2017 requires the emblem cannot look "out of date" when it is released in 2022.

The emblem resembles a skater at the top and a skier at the bottom. The flowing ribbon-like motif between them symbolizes the host country's rolling mountains, Olympic venues, ski pistes and skating rinks. When you look at it as a whole, it looks like Chinese character "winter" written using Chinese calligraphy.

"Chinese characters carry the lot of cultural factors, and it shows us cultural self-confidence," Lin told media.

Under the graphic are the text logo "Beijing 2022" and the Olympic rings logo. The whole emblem shows the vitality and passion of winter sports and conveys the unique charm of Chinese culture.

The use of blue in the emblem represents dreams, the future and the purity of ice and snow, while red and yellow - the colors of China's national flag - symbolize passion, youth and vitality.
