The Tongan government has thanked China for sending crucially needed equipment and logistical support to the Pacific island nation, by holding a welcoming ceremony on February 11. China's Foreign Ministry on Monday vowed to provide continuous support to rebuild Tonga following a ferocious volcano eruption.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson from China's Foreign Ministry, said at a regular press conference that the 119 units of engineering equipment had been sent to Tonga at the request of the Tongan government, accelerating recovery of the local economy.

"Another shipment of prefabricated houses, tractors and other materials will be sent to Tonga by the PLA Navy soon," said Wang.

Siaosi Sovaleni, prime minister of Tonga, stated that China had provided concrete support for Tonga following the volcano eruption, which reflects positively on the partnership between two countries, Wang noted.

He also vowed that China will help in the future to support the South Pacific island nation across a range of areas, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation.
