The price of wheat in war-torn Yemen has seen a rapid rise due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Russia and Ukraine are main exporters of wheat for the Arab countries, including Egypt, Yemen and Lebanon.

Egypt, one of the world's largest wheat importer, is seeking to diversify wheat importing sources, reported state-run Ahram Online news website.

The country imported 5.5 million tonnes of wheat in 2021, among which 80 percent was imported from Russia, according to the country's Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.

Russia and Ukraine together account for 29 percent of the world's wheat exports, according to Wheat Outlook 2022 issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in February.
