CPPCC member Kenneth Fok suggests deepening HK-mainland sports cooperation

Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, member of the National Committee of CPPCC, has called for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the mainland to carry out more sports focused exchanges to strengthen the links between young people. 

Speaking at a joint press conference for CPPCC members on Monday, Fok called for strengthening sports cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland taking 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and the 2025 National Games as opportunities.

Taking the opportunity of the 2025 National Games which is expected to be held by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, Fok suggested holding more exchanges focused on sports and encouraging the development of sports industry into the development plan for the Greater Bay Area.

Fok said that the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong has changed Hong Kong society for the better.

"But if we want to change from governance to prosperity, the most important task lies in the heart of people," he noted.

As 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. In this new era, the quality of exchange programs should be improved, with emphasis on helping Hong Kong youth increase their understanding of the country and increase their interest in certain aspects, Fok said.

Fok also thanked the central government and medical personnel, staff and experts at the front line of the SAR's current battle with COVID-19 .

"Mainland and Hong Kong people are family. Blood is thicker than water. As long as we stand united, there is no difficulty we cannot overcome," Fok said.
