At least seven people were charred to death after a major fire broke out in Delhi, India in the early hours of Saturday, a senior Delhi Fire Services official confirmed.

According to the official, the fire broke out in as many as 60 huts located near Gokalpur village in northeast Delhi. Rescue and relief work is still on, he added.

As many as 13 fire tenders were sent to douse the fire.

"Fire had spread to around 60 huts. So far seven charred dead bodies have been recovered," Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said over phone.
