In Shanghai, the city undergoing a wave of COVID-19 outbreak, a doctor came to the entrance of a residential area to perform an eyelid surgery through the fence as the community where the patient lived was closed off.

According to media reports, a woman was supposed to have her stitches removed a week after an eyelid surgery. However, just as she was about to go to the hospital for the procedure, she discovered that the neighborhood had been closed off and she wasn't allowed to leave.

After consulting with her doctor, she was advised to wait a day or two. However, the residential area was still under lockdown. The doctor tried to send her a stitch removal kit and told her to look for a practitioner to remove the stitches for her, but she did not find any.

On Saturday, the doctor, surnamed Zhou, came to the entrance of the sealed residential area to remove her stitches. The two wore masks, and the patient leaned her head against the fence while the doctor reached in with his tools from the other side.

The doctor, who completed the procedure on the woman, said in an interview that they followed the rules of containment as closely as possible throughout the process. "Although we were a little too close, we were all wearing masks and we all had negative nucleic acid results at the time."

"That's your responsibility as a doctor. I will help the patient as much as I can within my capabilities," he said.
