Spokesperson of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the US' so-called 2021 Human Rights Reports, which again pointed fingers at Hong Kong affairs, smeared the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the new electoral system, slandered the SAR governance and blatantly interfered in China's internal affairs.

Since Hong Kong's return, the "one country, two systems" principle and the Basic Law have been fully implemented, and rights and freedom of speech, the press and association enjoyed by Hong Kong residents are effectively ensured.

The spokesperson pointed out the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the new electoral system closed the loophole in national security, removed obstacles to the development of Hong Kong's democracy, safeguarded the rule of law and social order, and pushed Hong Kong to usher in a new situation from chaos to governance. This new chapter of good governance was embraced by all Chinese people including Hong Kong compatriots.

The SAR government is uniting people from all walks of life to focus on fighting the epidemic, revitalizing the economy and improving people's livelihoods. The happy lives cannot be distorted, the mainstream public opinion of thinking about stability and progress cannot be obliterated, and the historical trend of prosperity cannot be obstructed, the spokesperson said.

On respecting and ensuring human rights, the US is debt-laden both at home and abroad with its numerous wrongdoings, but misrepresents facts, confuses right with wrong, and spreads political lies and ideological bias and swindles across the world under the guise of "human rights."

The US ranks below the HKSAR on the index of freedom and rule of law. Human rights tragedies such as ineffective anti-epidemic response, racial discrimination and gun violence are frequent. The US has also exported wars to many countries, leading to human rights disasters in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and other countries.

The so-called human rights are just empty promises the US keeps bluffing, which will only make people see through the US' hypocritical double standards, logic of a robber and hegemonic deeds. The "fig leaf" has long been torn down and how is the US qualified to point fingers at China's Hong Kong as a "human rights judge?"

The spokesperson reiterated that Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong and Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs. China has rock-solid determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, to oppose external interference in Hong Kong affairs.

We urge the US to introspect and reform itself, abide by international law and the basic norms of international relations, and immediately stop the political farce that aims to ravage Hong Kong under the guise of "human rights."
