A total of 70 percent of 1,800 essential industrial enterprises in Shanghai have resumed operations, and the resumption rate among the first batch of 660 enterprises hit 90 percent, according to officials from the local government during a daily press conference held on Thursday.

Enterprises that have already reopened production kept working over the May Day holiday, said Zhang Hongtao, a general engineer from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information, during the conference. He noted that enterprises in various sectors including auto manufacturing, integrated circuits, and biological medicine are increasing their production and have made notable progresses.

Zhang reaffirmed the role of the "white list" mechanism to secure the resumption of production, which made clear the application process and conditions that have to be met. Zhang also vowed to engage with voices from multiple fields to solve issues such as logistics congestion, storage and license issuance.
