US electric car maker Tesla is recalling 107,293 locally made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China, to fix software problems that could increase the risk of collisions in extreme circumstances, starting from May 23, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation.

The cars facing the recall were made between October 19, 2021 and April 26, 2022.

The infotainment system’ CPU may not have sufficient cooling while being recharged, which may cause the central processor to run at a slower pace and the touch screen displaying problems. A safety loophole has been identified leading to a risk of collision in extreme scenarios.

Tesla will update the software for the recalled vehicles for free through over-the-air (OTA) technology.

In April, Tesla announced two recalls covering a total of over 140,000 Model 3 cars.

Within its financial year starting last June, Tesla has announced nine vehicle recalls. Before the latest recall of over 100,000 cars, the US electric car maker had recalled about 670,000 vehicles since last June, according to a report published by domestic industrial website Hexun Auto on May 2.

Given that the total number of cars delivered by Tesla in 2021 stood at 936,172 worldwide, the number of its vehicles recalled is significant.
