A wide gauge railway cargo train dispatched on Wednesday from Erenhot in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to Ulan Bator of neighboring Mongolia, the first wide gauge railway train between two countries, CCTV reported on Thursday.

China's domestic railway gauge is 1,435 millimeters and the gauge of Mongolian and European railways is 1,520 millimeters. Cross border cargo from China used to be unloaded and re-loaded on wide gauge trains at dispatching ports.

The launch of wide gauge trains will increase the efficiency of cargo transport between China and Mongolia, shortening transport time by as much as 30%.
