On June 15, the Yiyang Public Security Bureau in Central China's Hunan Province conducted a surprise inspection of a KTV in Heshan district, after a netizen reported that male models in the KTV were paid to serve as escorts. The KTV suspected of providing paid escort services was ordered to stop business for three months, and illegal gains of 100,000 yuan ($14,933) were confiscated by the local police.

Since May 2022, there have been more than six posts about male models serving as escorts sent on social medial platforms.

These reports involved KTVs from seven cities and counties in the province. In the report, netizens from all over the country lambasted the KTV for their corruption, alleging that some even offered sex services, while others sold fake wine at high prices.

Local police have suspended the operations of the KTVs involved and confiscated illegal income from some entertainment venues that were found to have paid escorts. "Hopefully there won't be any more places for male models to provide paid services. One less divorce, one less family hurt," one netizen said.
