A senior Chinese inspector at the Henan supervision bureau of financial watchdog China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC) is facing disciplinary action for alleged serious violations of laws and discipline, a statement released by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) showed.

The inspector, named Li Huanting, was born in Central China's Henan Province in 1962 and had held various positions at Henan's local financial supervision system since 1998, according to Li's personal resume published on CCDI's website.

Starting from 2003, Li had taken a number of positions at the Henan supervision bureau of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), including director of supervision office at the CBRC Henan supervision bureau, as well as director of a supervision division of rural small and medium-sized financial institutions.

In May 2020, Li took the position of first-level inspector at the CBIRC Henan supervision bureau.

Apart from Li, several CBIRC officials are set to be subject to punishment for discipline violations recently. Han Yi, former party secretary and director of Shanghai Banking and Insurance Regulatory Bureau, was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and public office.

Cai Jiangting, an inspector at the Law and Regulation Department of the CBIRC, was also expelled from public office for violations of laws.
