A news report that a man tried to commit suicide but ended up with mastering swimming skills in Huangshi, Central China's Hubei Province on Thursday went viral and sparked heated discussion. This non-swimmer felt regretful as soon as he jumped into the river. He struggled in the water for 40 minutes, and luckily mastered the skill of swimming, then he swam ashore by himself.

After saving himself, the man asked the traffic police for help. He borrowed 20 yuan($3) to take the bus and told the police that his mobile phone, ID card and shoes had all fallen into the water.

"Facing death directly may not as easy as he has thought," a netizen said. "He was lucky. However, we ought to cherish our lives," another netizen commented.
