Every summer, the Egyptians welcome the harvest season of prickly pears, a seasonal fruit often known as "cactus pears."

Though covered with thorny skin, the prickly pear is freshly delicious and popular with the Egyptians in summer. Street vendors selling the fruit would help their customers get rid of the thorny skin. Trying the prickly pears on Cairo's streets has been a unique experience for many tourists.
