The US is hit the hardest by the "enforced disappearance," said the spokesperson of the Permanent Mission of China to the UN on Tuesday. China opposes and rejects the US Permanent Representative to the UN, on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, making groundless accusations against China and interfering in the work of international organizations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US Permanent Representative to the UN, accused China of wrongfully detaining and ''disappearing'' numerous Uygurs.

In response, the Chinese spokesperson said the US has been fabricating lies and hyping up Xinjiang-related issues for quite some time. It talks about protecting human rights, but what it really wants is to use Xinjiang-related issues to contain China. Its ulterior motive has already been laid bare for all to see.

At present, people in Xinjiang region enjoy safety and stability, and live and work in peace and happiness. The human rights of all ethnic groups are fully protected. There is no "enforced disappearance" in Xinjiang at all, noted the spokesperson.

Enforced disappearance is an extreme violation of human rights that is prohibited and punished by countries in accordance with the law, the spokesperson said, adding that China's Constitution and laws clearly stipulate that citizens enjoy personal freedom, and no organizations or individuals can illegally restrict the personal freedom of others, and China firmly opposes any form of enforced disappearance.

The US has always portrayed itself as a "human rights judge" and "human rights defender." But the fact is the country has serious problems of enforced disappearances and a poor human rights record that gets worse with each passing day.

The systematic slaughter of indigenous people in the US since its independence in 1776 has slashed the native American population from 5,000,000 to 250,000. This is not only enforced disappearance, but a genocide with inarguable proof, the spokesperson noted.

Besides, the US pays little attention to its own people's rights to life and right to health. As a result, 1.04 million Americans have lost their lives and more than 200,000 children were left orphaned during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 alone, gun violence in the country has claimed more than 44,000 lives. These are permanent enforced disappearances caused by the government's inaction and failure.

The spokesperson pointed out that the public statement by the US Permanent Representative on Tuesday is the latest evidence of the US' coercive diplomacy and its arbitrary interference in the work of the UN and other international organizations.

What the US has done is a serious violation of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, making it the biggest saboteur of multilateralism and international rules, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also urges certain US politicians to stop their notorious diplomacy of lies and coercion, saying that their lies on Xinjiang will be seen through by the world and that attempts to contain China with Xinjiang-related issues are doomed to fail.

What the US should do is to earnestly safeguard the human rights of its own people, stop spreading false information and lies on the issue of human rights, stop using the human rights as a tool to interfere in other countries' internal affairs, and stop being a stumbling block to international human rights cooperation.
