Thematic forum of 'Building Consensus and Investing into the Future' successfully held in HK, building an information exchange platform for MBA students and alumni

In the evening of September 20th, 2022, the thematic forum of "Building Consensus and Investing into the Future" was successfully held at Wanchai Harbourview Hotel. Hosted by the Hong Kong MBA Institute, this forum was co-sponsored by the Web3 Lab and Blockchain Academy of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and supported by FamilyOfficeHK of Invest Hong Kong, Chinese Financial Association of Hong Kong, HK Tech 300, Pinerock Family Office, Tianlong Securities, and supported by business schools in Hong Kong. 

The forum explored the perspectives of the development trend of family offices and changes associated to web3.0, and discussed in-depth investment opportunities and challenges in the post-pandemic era, as well as Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre in the new "dual circulation" development pattern. Around 100 MBA students and alumni participated the event enthusiastically with positive feedback. 
 
The following officiating guests delivered speeches at the forum: Mr. Samuel Yung, SBS MH JP, Deputy Director of the Economic Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Chairman of the Hong Kong Appraisal Authority, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong MBA Institute, Mr. Dixon Wong, Head of Financial Services and Global Head of FamilyOfficeHK at Invest Hong Kong, Professor Yang Wang, Vice President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Mengsu Yang, Vice-President of the City University of Hong Kong, Mr. Bei Li, CFA, President of the Hong Kong MBA Institute and Vice President of Tianlong Securities.

Two panel discussions were hosted at the forum. The speakers of the panel “Family Office Trend and Career Opportunities in Hong Kong” are Mr. Marko Tutavac, Managing Director of VMS Group, Ms. Shannon Chow, Principal of Hamilton Lane, Ms. Karmen Yeung, Partner and National Head of Private Enterprises at KPMG. Ms. Ting Duan, Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong MBA Institute and Vice President of FamilyOfficeHK, Invest Hong Kong.

The second panel “From web2.0 to web3.0” moderated by Mr. Bei Li, invited the speakers, including Mr. Waishun Lo, Adjunct Professor at Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Haitian Lu, Director of Mainland Affairs of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Mr. Armstrong Lee, Managing Director of Worldwide Consulting Group Company Limited.

The panels covered the macro-economic environment, Hong Kong’s position as a leading family office hub in Aisa, and as the centre of science and technology innovation, as well as opportunities brought by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The participants also exchanged their views on investment opportunities and career development, which shed lights on the future development of MBA students and alumni. 

In addition, this forum kept up with the trend of the current blockchain industry and the parallel development of technological innovation and industrial applications. The Institute also invited Mr. Haoyu Liu, Founder of Blockchain Academy, a non-profit technology training platform, to share the latest trend in blockchain, Web 3.0, and so on.  
 
The Hong Kong MBA Institute was jointly established by MBA students and alumni from eight major business schools in Hong Kong in 2014. In 2016, the presidents of the alumni associations of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Baptist University jointly served as honorary advisors of the Institute. 

The Institute aims to build an information exchange and resource-sharing platform for MBA students, alumni and business people, and is committed to promoting MBA professionals to deepen exchanges with people from different industries. In the past eight years since its establishment, the Institute has gathered over 1,500 MBA professionals from different sectors and nearly 20,000 MBA students from Hong Kong institutions and overseas returnees.
