Young couple from metropolis reaches final of global math competition

Two students from Shanghai's Fudan University, who are also a post-2000s generation couple, entered the final of the 2022 Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition. The event attracted more than 55,000 applicants from over 70 countries, and will share more than 4 million yuan ($557,000) in prize.

Shi Runhan, a student from Fudan Medical College, and her boyfriend, a math major at Fudan University, became a couple because of their common interest in mathematics. The two said participating in the competition was also an activity for them to enhance their relationship.

Shi said that they often study math together at school, and her boyfriend will also associate mathematical formulas with the days they were together as an excuse to go on a date, integrating mathematics into romance.

The couple said that they will continue to digging to mathematics and use it in their professional research in the coming future.
