Ding Yun, Huawei's deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board, died of sudden illness on Friday at the age of 53, according to an obituary posted on Huawei's Xinsheng Community, the company's official employee community platform.

The obituary noted that Ding had worked for Huawei for 26 years and made a significant contribution to the company's growth and development.

Before the official obituary was released, Yu Weihua, president of Exhwer Club, an association for  Huawei alumni, said on social media that Ding "did not wake up again" after running 28 kilometers, which has been linked to an underlying heart issue, although not officially confirmed, bjnews.com.cn reported on Saturday.

Ding joined Huawei in 1996 and had served at various positions since then and was appointed as the head of the company's enterprise business group in January 2022.

In addition to being the deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board, Ding was also the president of the Corporate Leadership Management Department, president of the Enterprise Business Group, and president of the Carrier Business Group before his sudden death, according to Huawei's official website.

Ding's most recent public appearance was at the Huawei Connect 2022 conference held in Bangkok, Thailand on September 20 when he made a speech themed around "empowering industry, creating value."
