Three Israelis were injured in a shooting attack at a checkpoint in East Jerusalem on Saturday evening.

According to a statement from Jerusalem Police, two of the wounded are in critical condition and a manhunt is underway for the assailant.

Israeli media reported the attack was carried out by a Palestinian gunman.

The attack came at a time of heightened tensions between Israelis and Palestinians and ahead of the upcoming Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

Earlier on Saturday, two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli military raid in the West Bank city of Jenin.

On Friday, the Israeli military announced it will impose a full closure on the West Bank during some days of the Sukkot holiday, barring Palestinians from entering Israel.

The Israeli military has been conducting daily raids on West Bank cities in the past months, following a series of attacks by Palestinian militants, in which some Israeli civilians were killed. Approximately 100 Palestinians have been killed throughout this period, most of whom were claimed by the Israeli military as militants.
