German product design studio and brand Porsche Design recently launched a stainless one-piece Chinese kitchen knife priced at $240 which has already sold out in other major markets.

According to the Porsche Design website, the product is named "P22 China Knife," with the introduction labeling the product as "Indispensable for the Oriental Kitchen. Standard Knife from China."

As of Thursday, the knife had been sold out on the company's US website, while consumers could still buy the product via its Germany and Switzerland websites.

The Porsche designed Chinese knife quickly became a trending topic on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo, attracting 160 million reads and 7,874 discussions on Thursday, with much attention paid to whether the knife could smash garlic.

Previously, a renowned Chinese knife manufacturer Zhang Xiao Quan fell into the public spotlight when the blade broke after a customer tried to smash garlic with the knife. A representative from the brand responded that the kitchen knife could not smash garlic, triggering further online discussion.

Chinese consumers are also concerned about whether the Porsche knife could be used to smash garlic. An employee of the company's Shanghai sales company said that customers could use it to smash garlic and needed to consult local sales representatives for specific usage instructions, according to media reports.
