Liuzhou-made brands go abroad, accelerating globalization

The new-energy shuttle vehicles sponsored by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile (SGMW), a joint ven-ture based in Liuzhou, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has attracted lot of attention at the ongoing 17th G20 summit, which kicked off on Tuesday in Bali, Indonesia.

Liuzhou, an important industrial town in South China, is home to well-known enterprises such as Liu-zhou Steel Group, Liugong Group, and SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile. The city now has been promoting the rise of "Made in Liuzhou" brands in overseas markets, and accelerating its push to go global.

Air ev, as Wuling's first global new-energy vehicle, rolled off the production line in Indonesia on August 11. This is the first time that Guangxi region has realized the production of complete new-energy vehicles in an overseas country. The company’s market share has exceeded 80 percent only three months after becoming available for purchase.

Wuling will attract more suppliers in new-energy vehicle industrial chain to Indonesia in the future, according to Han Dehong, deputy general manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Indonesian subsidiary.

Liuzhou's auto industry actively entered the international area from the beginning of this year. Dongfeng Liuqi Motor’s passenger vehicle exports reached 14,000 units between January and October this year, a year-on-year increase of 184 percent, and the export value of lithium batteries for vehicles in Liuzhou was 310 million yuan ($44 million) in the first three quarters of 2022, a year-on-year in-crease of 2,704.5 fold.

The sales of Liugong construction machinery products in the ASEAN market increased by more than 50 percent year-on-year in the first 10 months of the year, while the market share of Liugong loaders in Vietnam and Thailand has been among the most popular vehicle in this category for many years. Liugong launched its machinery company in Thailand in August, the first joint venture in an RCEP participant country.

On November 11, nearly five tons of prepackaged Liuzhou Luosifen noodles were  transported to North America.

The city's foreign trade exports reached 15.62 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 36.4 percent in the first three quarters, according to official data.
