News that two men from Central China's Henan Province recently crossed the Qiongzhou Strait to South China's Hainan Province by water bike to save money aroused heated discussion on Chinese social media platforms on Wednesday.

The video posted online shows two men riding water bikes on the sea. They set off at 9 am and arrived in Hainan Island after six hours. The waves on the sea looked treacherous. They then spent 68 yuan ($10) on roast chicken to ease their hunger. In their response, they said that they were doing it to save money and challenge themselves.

While some netizens were shocked, others said that such behavior is not worth advocating and is too dangerous. "This is irresponsible, and if others follow suit, it will add to the workload of rescue police," one netizen said.
